Inquiry into Action

Praxis IB and next week

April 1st, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Greetings everyone,

Hope your research is off to a good start!  Please be aware that the  Praxis 1b worksheet that is due tomorrow should be uploaded to the Praxis gateway designated by your seminar leader.  Do not send it to your RING facilitator.  Praxis assignments will be evaluated by the professor who leads your Seminar.

Next Tuesday, 4/6, you will meet in your RINGS for the morning.  The first half of the class will be content based on how to work with data sets.  During the second half of the class you will have a chance to analyze some data together.  There will be  in-class writing to do, so be sure to do the reading in Stringer and attend your RING session.  Please be on time and ready for some formal learning about how to use statistics.

Enjoy your weekend! It’s supposed to be cold and rainy so be ready! (actually, April Fools – lol – it’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend).

Cheers,

Prof. Muir

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to remind you that tomorrow begins our Thursday field work days.  Your RING leader will be on hand to facilitate your group, but we know that many of you will be now working in small groups on various aspects of your project.  We plan to meet you in the Assembly Rooms and then go from there regarding individual plans.

Next Tuesday, you will also be given time to work in your RINGS.  Faculty will be available in their offices for small group consultations around the following topics:

Interviews – Prof. Smith

Surveys – Prof. Owen

Document Analysis/Research/Lit Reviews/Presentations – Prof. Muir

Meanwhile, if you need to reach your facilitator, please contact her directly through email.

Thanks!

This week in 203

March 20th, 2010 · No Comments · general information, RINGS, schedule

Hey Everyone,

Good work on Thursday in your RINGS and during the panel discussion.  I hope you were inspired by the various presenters and are beginning to see how community research can really deepen understanding of phenomena.

This week (3/23 and 3/25) will focus on preparing you to work with different communities on your research area.  On Tuesday, we will start in our Seminars — where we will catch up some with various assignments, hopefully talk about the learning foundation work you completed before spring break, and discuss how to do literature reviews.  Following this time, we will move to RINGS where we’ll be talking about how to prepare for community research.  By the end of this week, our hope is that you will be well on your way to starting to gather data and further explore your topics.

PLEASE NOTE: after the major snowfall we had, we readjusted the weekly schedule to reflect new due dates.  If you see any conflicting information about this (for example, an actual  assignment may still indicate original dates), always look at the weekly schedule where due dates will be indicated in red print.

Enjoy this beautiful weekend.  See you in 203.

This week in 203

March 15th, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Greetings Everyone,

We hope you had a wonderful Spring Break!  Remember that we do not meet on Tuesday this week, but we meet all day together on Thursday, 3/18.  We will begin in the JC Cinema at 9:30 am, where we will listen to various faculty members talk about some of the research they do within communities.  After this, we will spend the rest of the day with our RINGS.

If for some reason you did not turn in assignments that were due before Spring Break, it is very important that you contact your seminar leader this week to explain what happened.  By this point, all your community events should be finished and you should be working on the final section of this paper.  You should also have received some feedback on the Praxis articles so that you can begin working on the first draft of that paper.

Finally – don’t forget that Parts A-D of your RING Worksheet are due by Friday – so it’s very important that you attend your RING meetings this week and finalize your topic area.

See you on Thursday.  Have a great week!

Praxis Essay Articles – Please Read

March 1st, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Don’t forget that your articles are due to Dr. Perry by Friday, 3/5.  We have set up a gateway on PebblePad labeled “Praxis 1a.” Please upload your article selections to that space – do not send to her directly via email.

When you submit your articles, it would be very helpful if you provide the following:

Titles of articles
URLS for article location
Identify as qualitative or quantitative article

Thanks,

Prof. Muir
